You know what I hate?

Well many things, because I'm a dickhead like that.

But one thing that really really gets me is the superficiality -- and ignorance -- I am surrounded by on a daily basis. Case in point: my Facebook friend list.

For the most part, the most effective solution would be to unsubscribe to an offending individual, but my ire does not necessarily lie with those who are attention whores -- our generation is the "camwhore" generation, after all.

No! What pisses the fuck out of me are those people who just CHOOSE to remain ignorant despite having access to the Internet, the most powerful vehicle for information that ever existed. Ever.

The ones who can't even take 10 seconds out of their daily ego-gratification exercises to sign an online petition that may actually make a significant difference in the world.

The ones who would much rather *like* and share a video of a mouse riding a cat's testicles, than share something that could actually affect their society -- or the world.

Post a status update about being too lazy to go out and eat and you get 13 *likes*; try to get people educated about SOPA, only 3 of your closer friends share.

What gives? Seriously!

Social media is SO powerful, the wealth of knowledge is unfathomable, yet so many people just don't give a shit. Don't they care that they're stupid? So. Fucking. Stupid. Does it not bother them that they are not informed?

Maybe I'm too idealistic in that I always believe that when push comes to shove, people will do the right thing in spite of their normal inclination not to get involved. Man, but when they don't even want to do something or at least learn about something that WILL ultimately fuck with them too, it sickens me.
