"The purpose of...

"The purpose of life is not to be happy -- but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all." – Leo Rosten

Is it that simple – to matter?

Many of us struggle with the question, "what the heck is the point of life?" We live and then we die. We grow increasingly less relevant the longer we're alive; we grow increasingly less relevant the longer we're dead. Either way, we cease to matter as much after enough time has passed.

When people make such proclamations about what life is supposed to mean, they often speak generally, leaving the specifics for the rest of us to interpret as we wish. I guess that's the whole point, though, right? These people who have the luxury to ponder so incessantly on such questions are usually the type of people whose immediate concern isn't mere survival.

The other type of people who ask such profound questions are the ones who have suddenly found themselves lost.

If you really think about it, though, aren't we all just on our own personal journeys to find purpose? Not a bad thing. Just a thing.

The perpetual quest to be "good enough".
