It's that time...

It's that time of the year again, when we all get a little bit more introspective.

Why shouldn't we be, though? After all, the greater part of the year is behind us and there is much to be analytic about; as far as years go, 2011 has been one hell of ride . Maybe.

I haven't blogged in a while, so I will be a little rusty, forgive me.

For whatever reasons, I always feel compelled to write a "review of the year that was", and this year there is much to be said. On a global scale, 2011 was incredibly eventful; "change" seems to have been the umbrella theme.

Every week, almost, brought with it fresh news of change. The toppling of several dictatorships, the devastation of a tsunami, the death of Bin Laden; the sheer magnitude of the change is simply overwhelming. Despite the downturn of the global economy and the seemingly ubiquitous rebuilding that needs to be done, there was a resounding sense of hope and positivity amidst the rubble. And Even though SOPA was a bit of a fucker, deciding to make a late but dramatic entrance, I still count 2011 to be a pretty humbling experience.

Given that global happenings were so notable, it is only natural to assume that the year, with regards to myself, was pretty full-on as well. Coincidentally, the theme of change fits quite well into my "personal 2011".

The older I get, the more I realise I do not know. This year I have found myself adrift in a foreign sea, whose currents are unfamiliar yet, strangely, not altogether unnerving.

I won't go into depth about all the things I think I have learnt, but I will just make it a point to state that nothing is set in stone. Charles Darwin, himself, will attest to the fact that being adaptable is the best way to survive and possibly evolve. This is probably more a personal reminder to myself than anything else.

Yeah, the cheddar on my metaphors makes me cringe too, but! I am determined to learn to write better.

So I'm shedding my old misconceptions and trying to adapt a more flexible, positive outlook in general; not exactly tabula rasa, but just a different direction of sorts.

Let 2012 be the year for different beginnings and positive reinvention!
